Queering the Family was founded in Portland, OR in 2022 in response to the need for social connection 2+ years into the COVID-19 pandemic and in the aftermath of a U.S. administration whose homophobic and transphobic rhetoric threatened queer communities and mobilized anti-LGBTQIA+ violence.

Mission

To liberate queer families by fostering environments where we are seen, affirmed, and celebrated.

Vision

We envision living in a world where queer families can exist without having to engage in emotional labor or assimilate for the sake of connection and, instead, can lean into the joys of our culture.

In creating physical and digital spaces for queer families, we seek to foster an educated, loving, and uplifting world where we can thrive.

We acknowledge that our work and gatherings operate on stolen land—the land of the Cowlitz, Clackamas, and Multnomah peoples, along with many other tribes.

“Queering the Family is life blood.”
